Of fruits exported to China, honeydew melon is in high demand and price is also good, according to fruit wholesalers who operate border trading.
There are just a few growers of honeydew melon this year and demand has risen, that is why honeydew melon growers have enjoyed a good price and it is now above 6 Yuan a kilo, said Swe Myanmar Fruit Wholesale Centre.
“Honeydew melon farmers are doing well this year. The number of these melon growers is few this year, so the price is better than last year. One kilo costs more than K3000 and one piece weighs more than three kilos, so the price is pretty good,” said an official from the fruit wholesale centre.
However, the watermelon price has fallen as there are many growers, and the price is now just more than 2 Yuan a kilo, so watermelon farmers are facing low demand.
“Due to many growers, watermelon price has declined, just 2.5 Yuan a kilo, around more than 1000 in Myanmar kyat,” he said.
Fruit price used to good in previous years when it comes to Chinese New Year celebrations, so farmers are hoping to get good price in this new year.
Fruit exports are being made through Mongla route on the Myanmar-China border, according to the fruit wholesale centre.
