Hospital anniversary marks start of heart attack awareness week

NewsMandalay, 2 March —Mandalay General Hospital launched heart attack awareness week Monday, while also marking the second anniversary of Primary PCI treatment at its Cardiology Department.
Short for percutaneous coronary intervention, PCI treatment involves the widening of arteries that have narrowed as a result of heart disease. Some 135 patients have successfully received the treatment since 18 February 2013, the hospital said. Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Ye Mint gave a speech at the ceremony, while retired medical superintendent of the hospital Dr Maung Win explained healthcare services being provided in the region, as well as the construction of new hospitals and clinics.
Dean of the Cardiology Department Daw Than Than Kyaing explained the advantages of elective PCI and primary PCI.
Associate Professor Dr Kyaw Soe Win also explained plans of Mandalay General Hospital’s special treatment network for performing surgical treatments on the patients suffering from heart attack. Tin Maung (Mandalay)
