Effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade in accordance with the law under the supervision of the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee.
On 18 January, investigations were carried out under the management of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force.
A total of 6.9686 tons of sawn timber (estimated value K906,536) including 3.4946 tons of various types of timber (estimated value K559,136), and 3.474 tons of Taungthayet timber (estimated value K347,400) were seized in Taungup Township of Rakhine State on 19 January and were handed over to the Township Forest Department and action is being taken in accordance with the forest law.
On 22 January, at Asia World Port Container Inspection Station, Food Supplement Dietary Supplement that contains more than what is stated in the import declaration ID imported from the USA (net value of K70,020,000) including four items of Food Supplement Dietary Supplement Item (estimated value of K26,940,000) and eight items of Food Supplement Dietary Supplement Item (estimated value K43,080,000) were confiscated and action is being taken in accordance with the customs law.
Next, a combined inspection team led by the Customs Department conducted a search at the permanent Yaypu checkpoint and seized 120 China-made TOFFEE Candy cartons (estimated value of K2,400,000) without any official documents and is taking action in accordance with customs law.
In addition, combined inspections were conducted by the Joint Task Force under the management of the Anti-Trafficking Task Force from Kayin State.
A total of K23,065,600 worth of goods including 720 pairs of shoes (estimated value K4,065,600) carried by one 16-wheeler (Mitsubishi Canter) (estimated value K19,000,000) were seized on Asian Highway, Thayagon Village-tract, Hpa-an Township and action is being taken in accordance with the customs law.
In addition, under the management of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force, inspection was carried out by joint teams led by the Forest Department on 22 and 23 January.
In the forest reserves of Toungoo and Thayawady districts, a total of 8.7462 tonnes of timber (estimated value 1,524,660 kyats) including 6.2862 tons of illegal teak (estimated value K1,438,560) and other types of 2.46 tons of timber (estimated value K86,100) were seized and action is being taken in accordance with the forest law.
Similarly, a combined team led by the Customs Department conducted inspections at the 16th-mile Kyaukchaw checkpoint in Mandalay Region yesterday.
Next, 48 bottles of Chinese brand Chunliang Yuanjing brand liquor (estimated value K480,000) and 400 TAILI brand 36W bulbs (estimated value K800,000) were seized and action is being taken in accordance with customs law.
In addition, Sagaing Region, under the management of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force, and led by the Forest Department, combined inspections were carried out in Tamu and Homalin Townships, and 14.428 tonnes of Kanyin (approximately K721,400) and action is being taken in accordance with the forest law. Thus, a total of 11 arrests with the estimated value of K99,918,196 were made from 18 to 23 January according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee.—MNA
