Illegal foodstuffs, timbers, unregistered vehicles seized

The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee takes strict action against illegal trade under the law.
The Rakhine State Forest Department carried out an inspection from 20 to 24 January and seized 70.6394 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K4,841,291 in Thandwe, Gwa, Kyaukpyu, An and Taungup townships. They took action under the Forest Law.
On 24 January, the Muse 105th-Mile Trade Zone Inspection Team also confiscated K97,733,200 worth of foodstuffs and vehicle — China-made foodstuffs worth K57,733,200 and a 22-wheel vehicle worth K40,000,000 that carried these foodstuffs. They took action under the Customs Law.
On 25 January, Sagaing Region seized K3,333,000 worth of illegal vehicle and timber — one Nissan AD van (unregistered) worth of K2,500,000 in Sagaing Township and 8.33 tonnes of illegal Kanyin (Dipterocarpus Alatus) timber worth K833,000 in Tamu Township. The officials took action under the Export and Import Law and Forest Law.
Moreover, the Bago Region Forest Department also seized a total of 2.177 tonnes of illegal timber worth K342,370 — 0.8260 tonne of teak worth K247,800 and 1.3510 tonnes of other timbers worth K94.570 in the forest reserve of Toungoo District. They took action under the Forest Law.
There were 11 arrests (estimated at K106,249,861) from 20 to 25 January, according to the committee. — MNA
