Illegal teak, gold, foodstuffs, consumer goods and vehicles seized

Officials confiscate illegal teak logs in Bago Region.

Supervised by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, action is being taken under the law against illegal trades across the country.
The combined inspection team made inspections on 22 May. They captured an unregistered Toyota Mark II car at an estimated value of K3,500,000 on the Minbu- Magway Road in Minbu Township and an unregistered Nissan X-trail car (estimated value of K4,000,000). Police opened case files under the Export/Import Law.
In addition, on the same day, the team led by Myanmar Police Force seized K82,000,000 worth of four illegal gold plates – ten grammes per one gold plate which are expressed an academy label at No (3) Port in the Kanyinchaung economic zone of Maungtaw Township. Police opened a case file at the Pyinphyu Police Station.
Moreover, on 23 May, the Mayanchaung checkpoint of Mon State also captured K2,002,000 worth of illegal consumer goods that showed no official document from an express bus heading from Thaton to Bago Township.
The combined inspection team confiscated electronic appliances and cigarettes (estimated value of K1,820,000) that showed no official documents at the Nandaw checkpoint in Muse Township. The action was taken under the Customs Law.
On 24 May, the Bago Region Forest Department seized 4.4120 tonnes of illegal teak (estimated value of K1,455,964) in the Mukar forest reserve of Minhla township. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, from 22 to 24 May, seven arrests were made, totalling K94,777,964, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
