Illegal teak lumber confiscated in Ottwin Township

Acting on a tip off, a combined inspection team from the Forest Department from Toungoo confiscated illegal timber at Milepost 144/2 on a highway in Ottwin Township at 11:23 pm on 5 March.
The team stopped a six-wheel vehicle coming from Ahwayyar village and found the vehicle to be carrying 68 illegal teak logs weighing 4.8252 tons. The team also found another 356 teak logs weighing 18.9672 tons, including 218 teak logs weighing 9.3898 tons and 70 Pyinkado wood logs weighing 4.7522 tons.
The Forest Department is still investigating the owner of the vehicle and the illegal wood. Currently, the department is taking action against the driver.—Lu Aung (Katha)
