Illegal teak, vehicles and consumer goods confiscated

Supervised by the Yangon Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force, a combined team under the leadership of the Hmawby Township Forest Department conducted inspections on 6 November.
Officials nabbed a total of 0.8058 tonne of illegal teak doors and teak window frames worth K531,828 from an Isuzu car (estimated value of K15 million) at the wood and forest product checkpoint at 30/1 Milepost on Yangon-Pyay Road. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
In addition, a combined on-duty team at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) combined checkpoint captured K3.2 million worth of clothes and sandals without official documents from two vehicles heading from Myawady to Yangon on 6 and 7 November. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, a combined team made inspections on 7 and 8 November and seized a total of 42.7876 tonnes of illegal teak worth K15,831,186 in the Toungoo district.
Therefore, five arrests (at an estimated value of K34,563,014) were made on three consecutive days from 6 to 8 November, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
