Illegal timbers, consumer goods, foodstuffs, construction materials, industrial raw materials, car parts and vehicles confiscated

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
An on-duty inspection team under the instructions of the Kayin State Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force conducted inspections at the Myawady border trade zone on 28 and 31 August.
Officials confiscated K13,874,940 worth of industrial raw materials and car parts that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID). The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 30 August, an inspection team led by the Myanmar Police Force captured an unregistered AD Van car (approximately K7 million) in Khamti township. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
In addition, a combined team led by the Myanmar Police Force made inspections under the management of the Taninthayi Region. They nabbed a total of 4.866 tonnes of illegal gum-kino timber worth K3,211,560 from a vehicle (approximately K50 million) between the 1042-Milepost and 1043-Milepost on the Bokpyin-Kawthoung Union Highway of Bokpyin township. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
Afterwards, a combined on-duty team conducted inspections at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint on 31 August. Officials confiscated K14,939,000 worth of edible oil and electronics that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) from an Isuzu Giga 12-wheel truck (approximately K40 million) and a Mitsubishi Fuso 12-wheel truck (approximately K40 million) heading from Myawady to Yangon. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 31 August and 1 September, a combined on-duty team under the supervision of the Kayin State Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force examined vehicles heading from Myawady to Yangon at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) Combined Checkpoint. They seized K269,355,000 worth of electronics and construction materials from three 22-wheel trucks with trailers (approximately K200 million) and action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, a total of 2.3910 tonnes of illegal teak worth K1,198,560 were seized in Bago and Thayawady districts and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 21 arrests (approximately K639,579,060) were made on 28, 30 and 31 August and 1 September, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
