Officials confiscate illegal timbers.

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, action is being taken under the law against illegal trades across the country.
The combined inspection on-duty team at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint captured K3,014,000 worth of duty-free edible oil that showed no official documents and was carried with the passenger’s luggage from an express bus heading from Myawady to Yangon on 27 May. The action was taken under the Customs Law.
Similarly, the Mandalay 16-mile checkpoint confiscated K1,814,800 worth of 1.8148 tonnes of illegal teak and illegal gum-kino sawn timbers from three vehicles (approximately K32,000,000), and the action was charged under the Forest Law.
Moreover, on 28 May, the combined inspection team captured K947,186 worth of 5.502 tonnes of illegal timbers in the Kyaukmasin and Saiya reserve forest in Toungoo District. The case was charged under the Forest Law. Therefore, from 27 May to 28 May, ten arrests were made, totalling K37,775,986, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
