Illegal timbers, foodstuffs, consumer goods, car parts and vehicles seized

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illicit trade under the law.
Under the instructions of the Chairman of the Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force, an on-duty inspection team conducted inspections at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint on 12 July.
Officials confiscated K20,567,554 worth of foodstuffs, consumer goods and car parts that were different from the Import Declaration (ID) from a Volvo 22-wheel truck and trailer (approximately K60 million) heading from Myawady to Yangon.
Similarly, an unregistered Subaru pickup car (approximately K6 million) without official documents was captured. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
In addition, on 14 July, the Mon State Anti- Illegal Trade Task Force inspected a warehouse in Myaingthaya Ward of Mawlamyine township and captured K74,140,000 worth of duty-free cosmetics and foodstuffs without official documents. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Afterwards, a total of 0.795 tonne of illegal timbers worth K165,240 were confiscated in Banpyin village in Minhla township under the supervision of Magway Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
On 13 July, a combined on-duty team made inspections under the Bago Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force. They seized K19,048,000 worth of car parts and clothes from a Nissan 22-wheel truck and trailer (approximately K65 million) heading from Myawady to Yangon near the Phayagyi Tollgate, and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Afterwards, a total of 1.755 tonnes of hardwood parts worth K877,300 was captured on 16 July. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
In addition, K9.5 million worth of three unregistered vehicles in the Bago and Toungoo districts were captured, and the action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
Therefore, 15 arrests (approximately K255,298,094) were made on 12, 13, 14 and 16 July, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
