Illegal timbers, foodstuffs, consumer goods, communication devices, industrial materials and vehicles confiscated

Maungtaw township Customs Department under the management of the Rakhine State Illicit Trade Eradication Task Force nabbed 426 cartons of illegal foreign cigarettes worth K2,130,000 at the Kanyintaw creek in Pyathat village, according to Hlabawsa Police Station on 6 March. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
In addition, a combined team seized a total of 5.396 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K188,860 from a Hino auto (approximately K5.5 million) near Uto village on Yangon-Pyay Road in Taikkyi township and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
The on-duty team confiscated 21 kinds of goods including (Wireman and Saga PVC pipes) worth K104,423,497 at the Asia World Port container checkpoint on 6 March, and six kinds of goods worth K10 million at the Yangon International Airport (Import Desk) on 7 March including TIT Oberron Poly Screw 5.5 mm packet. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
Two kinds of goods (including 15,270 kilogrammes of the evaporator) worth K24,350,250 on 7 March and a Cheng Long tractor-head and a trailer worth K70 million at the No 2 Highway junction on Yangon-Hpa-an road. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
On 7 March, the Muse district illicit goods prevention team at the Sinphyu checkpoint in Muse township seized four kinds of goods (including wireless routers) worth K25.5 million from a Toyota Alphard (approximately K16 million) that were smuggled from China and 21 Oppo AB 2020 mobile phones and 100 various (used) mobile phones worth K6.23 million without official documents from a passenger who returned to Myanmar from Ruili, China. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
An unregistered Hero Honda 100 motorbike worth K150,000 was seized in Tamu township and an unregistered Isuzu car worth K2 million was captured in Sagaing township. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
A total of 4.93 tonnes of illegal teak worth K3,253,800 was seized in Homalin township and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 15 arrests (estimated value of K282,366,659) were made on three consecutive days from 6 to 8 March, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
