Illegal timbers, foodstuffs, consumer goods, industrial materials, raw materials and vehicles seized

On 9 and 10 March, an on-duty team under the management of the Customs Department made inspections at the Asia World Port Terminal container checkpoint.
Officials confiscated 21 kinds of goods including 54,680 ceramic tiles and 26,400 porcelain tiles that exceeded the 61 days of Valid for Prior Arrival (VPA) worth K252,606,013 from six containers and 56,000 ball-pens, 1,020 kilogrammes of welding rods and 400 kilogrammes of stickers worth K29,302,000 from two containers. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
In addition, a combined team at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint in Mon State captured 5,000 kilogrammes of ceiling bars (that exceeded the Import Declaration-ID) worth K7 million from a Hino Tractor head and a trailer (approximately K115 million) heading to Yangon from Myawady on 12 March and 120 cartons of M-150 energy drinks without official documents worth K2.16 million from a Higer express bus (approximately K30 million) heading to Toungoo from Hpa-an. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
On 13 March, an on-duty team at the 16th-Mile Kyaukchaw checkpoint seized 1,392 bottles of flower vacuum steel flask, 6,000 kilogrammes of iron pipes and 17 tonnes of red gram that were different from Import Declaration (ID) worth K69,550,451 from two Mitsubishi Fuso Trucks and a Hino Profia Truck(approximately K120 million). The action was taken under Customs procedures.
On 14 March, a combined team conducted a surprise check and captured four kinds of goods including 1,840 cartons of various tea and coffee mix and 150 kilogrammes of colour crepe paper without official documents from a Faw truck and a Gongfeng tractor truck (approximately K55 million) in bus station compound in Muse township. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
An on-duty team at the Thanlwin Bridge (Mawlamyine) nabbed 4,400 litres of palm oil without Customs duty paid that were stacked at the side of the road and the action was taken under Customs procedures.
Similarly, an inspection team led by Sagaing Police Station seized 34 kinds of goods including foodstuffs without Customs duty paid, consumer goods and cosmetics worth K30,128,001 from a Nissan Condor truck (approximately K20 million) in Sagaing township. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
On 15 March, a total of 9.731 tonnes of illegal teak and 48.700 tonnes of other timbers worth K9,083,314 were seized in Pyu and Letpadan townships. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 43 arrests (estimated value of K857,714,878) were made on 9,10,12,13,14 and 15 March, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
