Illegal timbers, foodstuffs, consumer goods, motorbike parts and vehicles confiscated

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law. The on-duty team under the supervision of the Customs Department made inspections at the Port Container Checkpoints of Yangon Region on 26 September.
Officials confiscated K2,561,580 worth of consumer goods that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) at the Hteedan Container Checkpoint, K5,383,665 worth of cosmetics that expired the date the FDA had approved at the Asia World Container Terminal Checkpoint, K100,383,660 worth of motorbike parts, consumer goods and edible oil that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) at the Myanmar Industrial Port Container Checkpoint and K11,340,000 worth of 10,800 pairs of sandal that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) at the Myanmar Thilawa International Port. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
In addition, an inspection team led by the Forest Department under the management of the Nay Pyi Taw Council Territory Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force captured a total of 0.9836 tonne of illegal timbers worth K201,712 in Lewe and Ottarathiri townships. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
On 27 September, a combined on-duty team conducted inspections at the Kyweye Combined Checkpoint of Monywa township and seized an unregistered Toyota Mark II car (approximately K4 million). The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
Similarly, an on-duty team under the supervision of the Taninthayi Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force at the Pauktine Bridge Checkpoint seized a vehicle that carried illegal goods (approximately K50 million) and the action was taken under the Law.
Afterwards, a combined team led by the Myanmar Navy captured a total of 40.3848 tonnes of illegal sawn teak worth K26,653,968 from two boats two miles off the coast of Magyisin village of Pathein township. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
An on-duty team made inspections and confiscated a total of 0.4150 tonne of illegal sawn ironwood worth K207,500 from a vehicle near the 94/1 Milepost on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Road in Kyaikto township. The action was taken under the Forest Law. In addition, on 28 September, a total of 10.6778 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K4,804,228 was captured in Bago, Toungoo and Thayawady districts and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 16 arrests estimated at K205,536,313 were made on three consecutive days from 26 to 28 September, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
