Illegal timbers, minerals, raw chemicals and vehicles confiscated

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
Under the instructions of the Taninthayi Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force, an inspection team led by the Kyunsu township Forest Department made inspections on 20 August.
Officials confiscated a total of 1.3772 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K275,440 from a wooden boat and related things (approximately K2.8 million) in the Kywekayan Creek in Kyunsu township of Myeik district. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
On 22 August, a combined team led by the Dawei district Crime Suppression Department captured 58 bags of minerals (mixed tin-tungsten) worth K47,610,000 without official documents in Sanchi Ward of Dawei township. The action was taken under the Myanmar Mines Law.
In addition, on 21 August, at the container checkpoint of Asia World Port Terminal.
They seized an unregistered B/N Light truck (approximately K7,492,500) without the Import Licence Approval. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, an inspection team led by Bago Region Customs Department nabbed K51,800,000 worth of raw chemicals without official documents from a Nissan 22-wheel truck (approximately K115 million) and a Mitsubishi Fuso 22-wheel truck (approximately K105 million) heading from Myawady to Yangon near the Phayagyi Tollgate. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 23 August, a total of 73.4292 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K43,550,174 were confiscated in Bago and Pyay districts. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 11 arrests estimated at K373,528,114 were made on four consecutive days from 20 to 23 August, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
