Illegal timbers, raw chemicals, consumer goods, foodstuffs, construction materials, jade jewellery and vehicles confiscated

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
Under the instructions of the Yangon Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force, an on-duty team led by the Customs Department made inspections on 13 August, according to information.
Officials confiscated K21,009,280 worth of raw chemicals and consumer goods that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) from a Mitsubishi Fuso car with a semi-trailer (approximately K40 million) on the Yangon-Mandalay Road. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
In addition, an inspection team conducted inspections under the management of the Mandalay Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force on 15 August.
They captured K87,009,000 worth of alcohol and cigarettes without official documents from two trucks (approximately K16 million) on the Taunggyi- Aungban-Ywangan-Hanmyitmo Road and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.

Similarly, an on-duty team at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint nabbed a total of 1,004 cartons of tiles worth K4,490,527 and 40 rolls of adhesive tapes worth K2,960,000 that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) from a vehicle heading from Myawady to Yangon. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 16 August, a combined patrol team at the Yepu Permanent Checkpoint impounded suspected jade jewellery worth K34,550,000 without official documents from a Toyota HiAce car (approximately K9 million) heading from Lashio to Muse township. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 17 August, officials conducted inspections under the supervision of the Bago Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force and seized a total of 22.6920 tonnes of illegal teak and hardwood worth K12,687,196 in the Bago and Toungoo districts. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
Similarly, a team led by the Myanmar Police Force confiscated an unregistered Toyota Wish car (approximately K3 million) near Myohla village of Paungdale town and the action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
Therefore, 20 arrests estimated at K230,706,003 were made on four consecutive days from 14 to 17 August, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
