Import value declines by $800 million over past nine months

THE total import value over the past nine months of his fiscal year hit over US$11.5 billion, a decrease of more than $800 million compared with the same time last fiscal year, according to the Commerce Ministry.
From 1 April to 30 December of last year, the country imported $4.646 billion worth capital goods, $4.074 billion worth of industrial raw materials and $2.806 billion worth of personal goods.
The government sector bought capital goods, raw materials and personal goods that amounted to $363.319 million from international trade partners while the private sector imported $11.13 billion worth of products.
The import value over the first nine months of last fiscal year totalled $12.368 billion, including $2.053 billion from the government sector and $10.314 billion from the private sector.
Myanmar normally imports personal goods, construction materials, agricultural machinery, raw materials, household goods, foodstuff, electronic devices and luxury products.
In the first nine months of this fiscal year, the country exported $8.298 billion worth products including mineral, fisheries, animals and agriculture products.—Shwe Khine
