Inlay Lake in Nyaungshwe Township of Shan State is a natural freshwater lake that attracts many local visitors and tourists.
Tourists are visiting the Inlay region this summer a few years after tourism had been stopped due to the outbreak of Covid-19.
“I came to the Inlay Lake because the children wanted to go on a pilgrimage to PhaungdawOo Pagoda during summer holidays. I visited Inlay Lake several years ago. At that time, my visit coincided with PhaungdawOo Pagoda festival and it was quite crowded. Now I can see a vast expanse of clean water in the Inlay Lake and pay homage to PhaungdawOo Pagoda in a quiet atmosphere,” said Ma Khin Cho Win, a visitor who came with her family.
“At present, visitors are coming gradually. I expect that more visitors will come when the matriculation examination is over and during the Thingyan holiday. The tourism industry and those who make their living in Inlay Lake will be convenient only if more and more visitors come to visit the Inlay region. I wish more visitors to come here,” said U Shwe Tun, a boat operator.
The travellers who visit the Inlay region go round the surrounding areas of Nyaungshwe township such as Nyaungshwe-Hawnan, local traditional restaurants, markets and souvenir shops, the Mongthauk Bridge and the ancient Shweyanpyay monastery. Visitors come to Inlay Lake not only to pay homage to PhaungdawOo Pagoda and other pagodas but also to visit weaving, silversmithing and bakeries by boat. — Sai Elbe/MKKS
