Insein Prison denies allegations of misconduct

G1

The Khit Thit Facebook page falsely claimed on 4 September that prison authorities of Insein were neglecting to address incidents of inmate abuse. The page alleged that a political prisoner was being subjected to same-sex sexual activity.
In reality, Insein Central Prison has no political prisoners and only holds individuals convicted of violating existing laws. On 20 August, an incident occurred in the prison’s medical and tuberculosis ward where inmate Zin Myo Ko allegedly attempted to forcefully engage in same-sex activity with another inmate, Thant Sithu Maung. The incident was reported to the correctional officers, who then investigated the matter.
The investigation confirmed that Zin Myo Ko had indeed attempted to engage in sexual activity with Thant Sithu Maung. Consequently, Zinn Myo Ko was demoted from his position as a senior inmate, who received a 14-day solitary confinement in addition to his existing sentence and faced a reduction in privileges as per prison regulations. Therefore, claims that no disciplinary action was taken are incorrect.
Insein Central Prison officials adhere strictly to prison laws and directives, ensuring no inmate is subjected to unlawful violence, coercion, or extortion. Any such claims made by Khit Thit Media are intended to mislead the public and are not based on fact. — Thitsa/KZL
