International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) holds 5th coordinating meeting for intermediate action plan (2023-2026)

The ICIMOD coordination meeting is in progress in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) held the coordination meeting to draw up the ICIMOD’s 5th Medium-Term Action Plan (2023-2026) at Amara Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
At the meeting, Director-General U Htay Aung of the Department of Forest under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation said that the meeting was held to meet the needs of each member state to implement the Medium-Term Action Plan 2023-2026, which was approved at the ICIMOD Board of Governors Meeting held on 28 April 2022.
In formulating action plans, it is important for Myanmar to effectively implement biodiversity conservation, which is an important priority area for Myanmar. Cooperation programmes with ICIMOD include the Himalayan Conservation and Development Programme. This programme includes Myanmar, China and India, intending to achieve natural resources conservation and sustainable development of climate change adaptation activities. He said a local information centre had been set up in PutaO Township to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable social development under the programme.
Afterwards, experts from ICIMOD and partner organizations discussed the medium-term business planning framework, priority areas, suggestions and steps to be taken to include activities that meet the needs of Myanmar.
The meeting was also joined by representatives of Nepal-based ICIMOD, rectors and professors from the University of Forest and Environment, Yezin Agricultural University, Yangon/Mandalay Universities, which are the partners of ICIMOD in Myanmar, and the deputy director-general and officials of the Forest Department attended. — MNA
