MYANMAR as well as the whole world needs peace, said Chairman of the Peace Commission Dr Tin Myo Win during a ceremony to mark the International Day of Peace at the National Reconciliation and Peace Centre in Yangon yesterday.
A number of foreign governments and organisations have provided assistance to Myanmar’s peace process, said the Peace Commission Chairman, pledging Myanmar’s commitment to work towards world peace.
During the commemorative ceremony, UNHCR Resident Representative Mr. Giuseppe de Vincentiis read out the UN Secretary-General’s message on the International Day of Peace and Dr Salai Lian Hmung Sakhong, Vice Chairman of the Chin National Front, addressed the event on behalf of the stakeholders’ group of ethnic armed organisations on the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee.
Regarding the ongoing peace process, Dr Tin Myo Win said that a target has been set for the next three to five years and two committees were formed to review the political dialogue framework in cooperation with NCA signatories and to keep in touch with NCA non-signatory groups.
“I believe that honesty brings trust to the peace process.” said the Peace Commission Chairman Dr Tin Myo Win.
According to the Peace Commission, compromises  to be reached at national-level political dialogue set to be held before the next conference will be approved at the second Union Peace Conference.
