The Inter-State and Region Vovinam Tournament 2023 was opened at Wunna Theikdi Gymnasium A in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
State Administration Council members, Union ministers, deputy ministers, departmental officials, officials from Myanmar Vovinam Federation, coaches and players joined the event.
Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs U Min Thein Zan highlighted that this tournament has been held since 2016, and this is the fourth time.
Following the remarks, the SAC members and the Union minister greeted the athletes cordially and watched the Men’s Doubles (Performance) and Men’s Singles (Fight) events.
Under the supervision of Sports and Physical Education Department of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Myanmar Vovinam Federation, the tournament was held to strengthen the friendship between Vovinam athletes and bring out the new generation of athletes, making the sport more popular throughout the country and raising the standard of such sport.
A total of 221 athletes from 13 male and 13 female teams are competing in the tourney, which is being held at the Wunna Theikdi Gymnasium A from 17 to 20 July.
