Israeli medical delegation “Eye from Zion” arrives in Myanmar

Yangon, 17 Feb — As part of the programme, the Israeli medical team led by Dr. Shmuel Lavertovski, MD, Head Department of Ophthalmology, Barzilai Medical Center, Ashkelon and specialists in Ophthalmology, Dr. Nir Shoam Hazon and Dr. Eyal Aloni, MD, Head of Neuro-ophthalmology service, Department of Ophthalmology, Barzilai Medical Center, Ashkelon and Dr. Elina Landa MD, Pediatric  Ophthalmology unit, Western Galilee Medical Center, Naharia who arrived in Yangon on February took the lead at complicated eye surgeries of adults and children with unique cases that were chosen by the staff of North Okkalapa General Hospital. The surgeries involved a live training sessions and demonstration for interns and doctors from the different eye departments.
Following the surgeries and training sessions, the Israeli doctors held a two day medical seminar for doctors and interns from different eye departments at Myanmar Medical Association Hall on 12 and 13 February 2015. The seminar was attended by over 50 members of the medical association, headed by the president of the Myanmar Medical Association.
This year is the 6th year of Eye from Zion’s project in Myanmar, which marks the long term cooperation between the two countries in the field of health and specifically Ophthalmology. GNLM
