A justice centre launched in Toungoo yesterday in partnership with the MyJustice Programme, funded by the European Union (EU) and International Bridges to Justice (IBJ),
The office was opened with an address by Union Attorney-General U Tun Tun Oo.
Speaking on the occasion, he expressed his delight for establishment of justice centres in regions and states by non-governmental organizations, saying that such centres would benefit the the country and people by helping them to get access to the justice.
The State has also established the rule of law department and coordination bodies for the justice in regions and states for the rule of law in the country, he said. The Office of the Union Attorney-General helped the poor who faced death penality in 696 cases by hiring pleaders for them spending K7 million in 2016-2017 FY. The enactment of the new Legal Aid Law in 2016 guarantees legal services to all those in need, said U Tun Tun Oo.
In his conclusion remarks, the Union Attorney-General also called on governmental departments and organizations concerned to cooperate with the Justice Centres in providing legal services to communities in regions and states.
