The Kachin State Government has been making efforts to improve the agricultural sector in the state, increase the production of produce, and improve the socio-economic lives of the farmers. Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan examined the model paddy farm of 100 acres and 100 baskets per acre at the Mankhein Ward in Myitkyina at 2 pm on 17 June.
The Chief Minister, along with state-level departmental officials, oversaw the status of monsoon paddy cultivation in the 100-acre model plot. A discussion was held between responsible personnel regarding the conditions of planting green manure (Crotalaria Juncea) for the farmers to ensure the saturation of the soil and the situation of distributing and planting seedlings of the high-quality Hsin Ekari rice variety to produce 100 baskets of rice from 1 acres of plantations.
In addition, the Chief Minister and party made an inspection on the conditions of excavating the 2,000-foot-long drain around the model plot, which the Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management is responsible for, and progress of plowing by tractor. The Chief Minister urged farmers to prepare in advance for the plantation of oil crops such as soybean, canola, and sunflower after the harvest of the monsoon paddy is completed. He also coordinated with departmental officials to fence before planting to keep cattle away. — State IPRD/CT
