Kachin State eyes export of value-added production of maize silage to China

The first coordination meeting of the subcommittee to prepare on MoU for bilateral trade enhancement between Myanmar and China in Kachin State in progress.

The subcommittee to prepare an MoU for bilateral trade enhancement between Myanmar and China in Kachin State convened its first coordination meeting at 10 am on 20 April.
First, Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan gave the remark concerning instructions for MoU preparations, formation of the subcommittee to facilitate the work process, efforts for value-added agricultural products, trading under the laws, rules and regulations, weighing up pros and cons to ensure the steady trade flow and further coordination activities.
Next, U Htay Lwin, head of the Kachin State Agriculture Department, in his capacity as chair of the subcommittee, explained matters regarding the SPS protocols and guidance on how to meet the criteria for exports of tissue-culture banana and other banana varieties.
Then, Kachin State ministers, officials concerned from the related departments and the crop producer association also analyzed the needs, and the chief minister coordinated them to deal with that.
After that, they discussed matters of maize silage production, packaging and exports to China as feedstuffs at 1 pm in Tarlawgyi village, Myitkyina Township.
The chief minister encouraged the production of maize silage as feedstuffs and value-added products. Additionally, this plan helps enhance the agriculture sector of Kachin State. Therefore, he urged the stakeholders concerned to work together to adhere to the Good Agricultural Practices strictly.
Also, the minister for Kachin State Security and Border Affairs elaborated on the production condition of the maize silage. U Htay Lwin, head of the Agriculture Department and Dr Than Aye, head of Kachin State Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department, explained how they inspect the production of maize silage to ensure the GAP and raise awareness of advanced growing methods.
Afterwards, the Century Sun Investment and Development Co., Ltd reported on a project developed on 200 acres of land in Tarlawgyi Village to produce and package maize silage to export to China. Finally, the chief minister instructed them to abide by the rules and regulations and instructed the officials to facilitate the process effectively. — Kachin State IPRD/GNLM
