Flocks of travellers are seen on jetly in Kawthoung.

Kawthoung seaside tourism industry has been revived, with the state now allowing the reopening of the tourism industry under the COVID-19 rules and regulations. With the local tourists from all over the country gradually returning to the islands of Kawthoung, the Bayintnaung Jetty was seen alive with flocks of tourists on speed boats arranged by travel companies to visit the exotic islands near Kawthoung yesterday.
Tourism activities in Kawthoung were shut down during the COVID-19 period, however, once a thriving seaside resort is reviving, attracting both local and foreign tourists, especially on public holidays and weekends, according to tour companies.
Kawthoung is a popular holiday destination for tourists due to its exotic beauty of beaches in the Andaman Sea such as NyaungUphee Island, Saturn Island, Myinkhwa Island, Kyatmauk Island (heart-shape island), Zadetgyi Island, Fork Island and Paradises where tourists can be a day trip.
As measures to prevent and control the transmission of the disease, every traveller is required to present the proof of being vaccinated for twice against the COVID-19 disease and to wear face masks and gloves along the trip. As it is a sea voyage, it is necessary for all tourists to comply with the regulations of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism and tourism companies so as not to endanger the lives of tourists, as well as the natural resources and ecosystems of the sea.—Kyaw Soe (Kawthoung)/GNLM
