Kayah State attracts local, foreign travellers during December holidays

Many local and foreign travellers visited Kayah State during the December holidays, according to the Kayah State Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.
“This year, both local and foreign travellers visited Kayah State because of the long December holiday. Some 120,000 local travellers visited Kayah State this year, marking an increase of 50,000 people, compared with only 70,000 who visited in 2018,” stated an official from the Kayah State Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.
Further, 12,000 foreign travellers visited Kayah State this year. Previously, pilgrimage tour vehicles had to cross Taunggyi and Inle to reach Kayah State but travellers can now reach famous sites in the State directly.
In 2019, local authorities permitted the opening of new hotels and guesthouses, but the town still failed to meet demand for accommodation given the large number of tourists arriving during the holiday season.—Aye Maung (Translated by Hay Mar)
