Kayin national flag hoisting ceremony held on Kayin New Year Day

The Kayin National Flag Hoisting Ceremony was held in Hpa-an of Kayin State at the dawn of the Kayin New Year Day 2716 Kayin Era which fell on 2 January 2022. The ceremony was opened with the Kayin traditional music and playing ceremonial bronze drum. The flag carried by the Kayin young men was hoisted by Kayin State Economic Minister U Saw Khin Maung Myint while the Kayin National anthem was played.
At around 7 am, the 2716th Kayin New Year Day ceremony took place at the same venue attended by Kayin State Chief Minister U Saw Myint Oo and wife, Deputy Commander of the South-East Command Brig-Gen Zaw Min Aung, State Chief Justice U Thein Ko Ko and ministers of the Kayin state government, officials from the KNU/KNLA-PC, honourable Kayin elders, representatives from political parties, ethnic leaders, representatives from social organizations and ethnic people.
Those present at the ceremony saluted the State flag of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and martyr leaders including General Aung San, and the message of Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing was read out. Afterward, Kayin State Ethnic Affairs Minister U San Ko read out the message sent by Union Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Saw Tun Aung Myint.
Chief Minister U Saw Myint Oo said it is necessary for Kayin State to continue on the path of peace it has already achieved and that cooperation in all sectors is very important for the success of the reform of the Union. He added the incitement to disrupt peace in some parts of the state and urged the people of the state to pay attention to the fact that some foreign countries and organizations make attempts to end the peace process. He also highlighted the need to preserve and promote culture, literature and traditions of the people to raise the standard of the people.
Afterwards, Kayin youths explained the origin of the Kayin New Year day in Myanmar, East Poe Kayin and Sakaw Kayin languages. The master of the ceremonies read out the biographies of the prominent Kayin elders, and the Chief Minister and cabinet members presented gifts in honour of Kayin elders.
After the New Year celebration, the Chief Minister and party enjoyed the Kayin traditional food together with the people, and observed the Kayin literature and cultural exhibitions and departmental exhibitions.—Saw Myo Min Thein (IPRD)/GNLM
