The Kayin traditional white thread-tying festival was celebrated yesterday morning at the Union Hall of National Races Village in Thakayta Township, Yangon Region. Religious leaders attended the event, State Administration Council Member Mahn Nyein Maung, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein and his wife, SAC Central Advisory Body leader U Saw Tun Aung Myint and his wife, SAC Central Advisory Body member Saw Daniel, Deputy Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Zaw Aye Maung, Minister for Yangon Region Ethnic Affairs U Saw Jacob Htoo and his wife, departmental officials, and members of the Kayin community.
To commence the festival, State Administration Council Member Mahn Nyein Maung, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, SAC Central Advisory Body leader U Saw Tun Aung Myint, SAC Central Advisory Body member Saw Daniel, Deputy Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Zaw Aye Maung, and Minister for Yangon Region Ethnic Affairs U Saw Jacob Htoo played the frog drum nine times.
Following this, State Administration Council Member Mahn Nyein Maung delivered the opening speech. The Yangon Region chief minister and the SAC Central Advisory Body Leader also extended greetings at the festival.
The guests then enjoyed traditional Kayin dance performances. The festival continued with contributions from the youths of the Kayin Literature and Culture Association, who provided materials related to the white thread-tying tradition.
Additionally, SAC member Mahn Nyein Maung, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, SAC Central Advisory Body Leader U Saw Tun Aung Myint, participated in the festival offering, and the ceremony continued. — San Kyaw Oo (IPRD)/ TRKM
