Kengtung Airport must be improved to admit direct landing and taking off of aircraft which stretches aviation transport to Laos, China and Thailand: Senior General

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspected the situation of upgrading Kengtung Airport and construction of Kengtung Saopha Palace Replica in Kengtung of Shan State (East) yesterday afternoon.
At the airport lounge, Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San, Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Kyaw Swa Lin and Director of Military Engineers Brig-Gen Zaw Naing Oo reported on the brief history of Kengtung Airport, situation to upgrade the runway and the airport and future plans.
After hearing the reports, the Senior General said Kengtung is blessed with a beautiful natural environment in addition to the Buddha Park in Pankwe Village and Loimwe hill station as well as various tourist destinations. Currently, jets are used in aviation transport to far distant areas of the country. Hence, the Senior General pointed out that airports must be upgraded for heavy aeroplanes. The Senior General stressed that Kengtung Airport must be improved to admit direct landing and taking off of aircraft which stretches aviation transport to Laos, China and Thailand.
The Senior General inspected the upgrading of the runway at Kengtung Airport and gave necessary instructions to officials.
The Senior General inspected the progress in the construction of the Kengtung Saopha Palace Replica in its area near Nawngtung Lake and attended to the needs.
In looking into the maintenance of Nawngtung Lake, the Senior General heard reports on water supply and drainage of the lake, pumping out of silt without harming the lake, least impact on the environment in the work process, and systematic dredging of silt through the sonic water level meter presented by the Director of Military Engineers and officials.
In response to the reports, the Senior General gave necessary guidance and inspected the work progress along the circular lake lane. —MNA/TTA
