Testing result of an Mpox suspect found at Mayan Chaung inspection gate, Kyaikto township, Mon state, was negative, according to Kyaikto’s Public Health Department.
As a 45-year-old man on a highway bus from Hpa-an at the gate on the evening of 5 September developed the symptoms of fever, body pain, and blisters and rashes on his face and skin, he was quarantined as a Mpox suspect at the Kyaikto hospital. Health workers conducted a general health examination on the 46 passengers who were travelling together with the patient on the bus, and they were allowed to continue the journey after taking their records since no suspected person was identified.
Samples from the patient’s blisters were taken and sent to the National Health Laboratory Department (Yangon) on 6 September in the morning. That evening, the laboratory test showed that no Mpox virus was detected and that skin lesions just resulted from the patient’s weak immune system. The patient’s condition is stable and sound, according to the Kyaikto hospital. — MT/ZN/ED
