Lake restored for fire prevention

Residents of Kawlin, Kachin State, are once again able to use an artificial lake for recreation following environmental restoration work carried out in preparation for the high fire-danger season.
The lake, dug for fire-fighting purposes in 1990, had been known for its clean water, but became silted and polluted with rubbish and waste.
With a K 5 million contribution from the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (Union Parliament), K 1 million from the Township Development Assisting Committee and K 1.8 million from Zeya Padetha Livestock Breeding Foundation, the Kawlin Township Administration Committee built a retaining wall at the eastern bank of the lake.
Myanmar Railway Division-2 took responsibility for building the retaining wall at the western bank.—GNLM-018
