There are fake Facebook accounts and pages which mislead people as if they were Parahita groups, so people should make proper enquiries before they donate, Thathananwe Foundation’s Sayadaw warned on his Facebook page.
As a gang, such fake accounts and pages are collecting money by using photos of poor children and old and infirm people, pretending to be monks and leaders of Parahita groups, said Sayadaw.
Similarly, some scams work as fake accounts or pages of online shops.
Sayadaw said there is an account that looks like a woman often makes comments about scam messages below his post.
“I’m quite cautious. Scam messages were sent to me two or three times. The amount of the prize they told me was pretty good, but I know it is a scam,” he said. — MT/ZS/ED
