The arrival of long white choy sum from PyinOoLwin and plains to the Thirimarlar wholesale centre in Aungmyaythazan District of Mandalay Region fetch good prices, according to these centres.
A total of five or six choy sum trucks enter the Thirimarlar wholesale centre daily. The prices become stronger than in previous months. The price of a 30-viss bag was between only K12,000 and K15,000 per bag last month and now it is between K15,000 and K22,000, said U Aung Moe Naing, owner of Aung Wholesale Centre.
“Currently, the long white choy sum from mainland and PyinOoLwin enter the market. The prices are drastically on the rise due to the decreasing numbers of farmers, materials and transportation difficulties. Currently, five or six trucks enter this market. They are produced in PyinOoLwin and the plains and the prices are increasing as the demand is high. The production rate from hilly regions is low. Therefore, the farmers get proper prices,” he added.
In addition to the long white choy sum, other raw vegetables such as potato, cucumber, tomato, cabbage, chilli, snow pea, chayote, eggplant, kidney bean and cauliflower also fetch good prices in the market. Currently, various commodities trucks enter the market as usual daily. — Min Htet Aung (Mandalay Sub-Printing House)/KTZH
