Myanmar Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, said that it helped for the cremation of two Myanmar crew who died in the shipwreck of an HK-flagged vessel.
The Myanmar Embassy coordinated with the shipping agent for the cremation of U Phyo Min Hein and U Zeyya Nyein according to the wishes of their families.
One of them was alive at the time when he was found and died only after reaching Japan, so there was no difficulty in cremating him in Japan. However, the other one had already died when he was found in international waters and Japanese authorities replied to Myanmar authorities that they could not allow him to be cremated in Japan according to Japanese law.
However, the Myanmar Embassy coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan to consider and allow the cremation of the two on humanitarian grounds.
According to the statement of the Myanmar Embassy, the permit for the cremation of those Myanmar crew according to the wishes of their families was obtained on 17 February and the bodies of the Myanmar crew were properly cremated at 1 pm on 2 March. — TWA/MKKS
