The pharmaceutical companies organized medicine sales at three designated sites in Yangon and Bago regions under the guidance and leadership of the Ministry of Commerce, Yangon Region Government and the Myanmar Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment Entrepreneurs Association.
The first medicine sales centre was in Pabedan Township, and the sales were launched by 70 companies starting from 17 July to date. The second centre was at Nawade Cinema, where the sales started yesterday and until 3 August, from 9 am to 4 pm. Some companies made diabetes and hypertension checks for free. Moreover, the third centre was on the top floor of Ottha Thiri Market in Bago, and the sales started yesterday.
“The purpose of selling medicines directly to the public is to make it easier and faster to search for medicines and sell them in a single place. Depending on the demand, we will expand the medicine sale centre, and we will display in regions and states as necessary,” said U Zeyar Phyo, central executive committee member of Myanmar Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment Entrepreneurs Association.
The association instructed the pharmaceutical companies to sell all their stored medicines to the public. The people can buy the medication at the centres during office hours if a medicine shortage problem occurs. The companies sell about 1,000 types of medicines, and they can enquire about rare medicines from the association. — MNA/KTZH
