A meeting was held at the Ministry of Information in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday to review the printing, publication, and distribution of school textbooks in the 2019-2020 academic year, and for coordinating the printing and distribution of textbooks for the next academic year.
At the meeting, Union Minister for Information Dr Pe Myint, in his capacity as the chairman of the Textbooks Publishing and Distribution Committee, delivered the opening speech.
He said the Printing and Publishing Department of the Ministry of Information executes most textbook orders placed by the Ministry of Education. To complete the orders for textbooks,the Ministry of Information has been collaboratingwith the Myanmar Printers and Publishers Association and the Mandalay Region Printers and Publishers Association, he said.
The printing, publishing, and distribution of textbook for the 2019-2020 academic year was completed on time and the books wereof good quality, he said. But, efforts need to be madeto produce better textbooksin the 2020-2021 academic year, he added.
Then, Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi said that work on textbooks based on the new curriculumis in progress.
As this is an annualendeavour, collective efforts are needed to make it better year after year, he said.
A precise evaluation of the number of students is being made so that the state budget is not wasted in publication and distribution of books, he said. There is a back-up plan for distributing textbooks on time if, for some reason such as floods, more books are needed, he added.
Afterwards, the Chairman of the Textbook Printing Sub-committee and the Deputy Minister for Information, U Aung Hla Tun, and the Chairman of the Textbook Distribution Subcommittee and Deputy Minister, U Win Maw Tun, spoke about the different aspects of textbook printing and distribution.
Then, the Vice Chairman of the Textbook Printing and Distribution Committee, U Myo Myint Maung, explained the printing, publishing, and supply of textbooks in the 2018-2019 fiscal year (2019-2020 academic year) and the secretary of the committee, Director-General U Aung Myo Myint, detailed the plan for printing, publishing, and distributing textbooks on time in the 2019-2020 fiscal year (2020-2021 academic year).
Later, Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Gyi presented Union Minister Dr Pe Myint a certificate of honour for completing the printing, publishing, and distribution of textbooks for the 2019-2020 academic year on time.
Then, officials from the Ministry of Information, Ministry of Education, Myanmar Printers and Publishers Association, and Mandalay Region Printers and Publishers Association took part in sector-wise discussions.
The meeting came to an end with concluding remarks by Union Minister Dr Pe Myint.—MNA
