Meeting in Yangon seeks means to ensure sufficient supply of essential goods

A meeting to ensure sufficient stocks of basic foods, medicines and medical equipment and to contain their prices was held at the head office of Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) in Yangon at 9 am yesterday.
At the meeting U Aung Soe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, said discussions should be centred on the categorization of essential commodities including rice, cooking oil, kitchen crops, medicine and medical equipment and contain their retail prices at a reasonable level as a preventive measure against the rise of commodity prices and market manipulation resulting from Covid-19.
The official invited suggestions for the adoption of a collective programme of the organizations concerned to store rice and cooking oil stocks as reserve food of the State, assuring real-time assistance in solving the problems faced in export and import procedures.
The permanent secretary, President of UMFCCI U Zaw Min Win, the director-general of the Trade Department, the deputy director general of Consumer Affairs Department and chairpersons and executives of the relevant organizations took part in the discussions. They presented the functions and difficulties of the respective organizations, programmes under special supervision and suggestions for the uninterrupted and sufficient flow of essential goods including rice, edible oil and medicines and medical equipment. —MNA (Translated by TMT)
