Meeting on screening guidelines for convicted children in training schools (draft) held

The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement held the coordination meeting on screening guidelines (draft) for convicted children in training schools yesterday morning via a virtual system.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister Dr Thet Thet Khine, Deputy Minister U Aung Tun Khaing, the Permanent Secretary, Directors-General, Deputy Directors-General, Directors and head of the respective training schools.
At the meeting, the Union Minister said her ministry is implementing child rights activities with prevention, protection and rehabilitation methods. The ministry has formed the Central Committee for Screening Convicted Children in Training School, and the meeting aimed to negotiate with respective training schools’ heads for the children’s best interests.
The Union Minister mentioned the screening guidelines (draft) in order to assess the children age, the reason for committing the crime, the environment in which the child lives, whether discipline is followed during their stay at the training school, and situations such as attending vocational training. She also said the need to provide necessary staffing and building depending on the number of children cared for in the training schools and skills training for the staff.
Afterwards, the attendees discussed the status of the committee formations, the screening of children in the custody of the respective training schools and the convicted children submitted to the committee.
The Union Minister and the Deputy Minister discussed the requirements of the draft guidelines for the screening of convicted children in the training schools and coordinated the conditions for meeting the needs of the training schools. — MNA
