Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr Kan Zaw attended the GMS Projects Roadshow and Lancang Border Economic Cooperation Zone event on the second day of the 2023 GMS Economic Corridor Governors Forum yesterday.
In his opening speech, the Union minister expressed hope that economic cooperation among GMS countries can be promoted through the establishment of the Lancang Border Economic Cooperation Zone.
He added that Myanmar approved 597 Chinese investments worth US$21.863 billion amounted to 23.5 per cent of total FDI in the country. China’s heavy investment flows into the power sector and so it should emphasize that sector for border area development.
He then highlighted the benefits of the China-aided Kunlong Bridge, and International Aquatic Products Processing Industrial Park project and was also invited to make investments in prioritized sectors of Myanmar.
He also urged the GMS countries to support technical cooperation among member states to provide food security and agricultural products.
The event included a briefing session on investment in the Lancang Border Economic Cooperation Zone and Dehong Pilot Free Trade Zone.
