Mingala Yankin affordable rental housing programme to kick off in June

Mingala Yankin affordable rental housing scheme developed in Shintawgon village in Patheingyi Township, Mandalay Region has completed 80 per cent and the apartment units will be rented out in June 2022, according to the Mandalay Region Department of Urban and Housing Development.
This affordable rental housing scheme is aimed to provide accommodation to low-income people, retirees and government personnel. A stake-driving ceremony for the construction of this housing was held on 28 August 2020, with estimated spending of K41.6 billion. The construction is slated to be finished in June 2022. The construction work is 80 per cent complete, said U Thet Naing, director of the Mandalay Region Department of Urban and Housing Development.
“The eligibility will be determined by the annual gross income of the applicants. It is a five-year lease with a five-year renewal option. The head of the household has to renew the lease. A person with disabilities or the elder can also process with the recommendation of the housing committee. The department is making efforts to accomplish this project as soon as possible,” he elaborated.
The housing scheme includes 91 five-storey buildings with 1,456 units. The monthly rent for the 666-square feet apartment is K40,000-50,000 depending on the floor. A matter concerning the housing policy and setting rental rate is submitted to the housing committee and the regional government.
The affordable rental housing projects are undertaken with 194 buildings (3,104 units) in Yangon Region, 28 buildings (448 units) in Nay Pyi Taw and 91 buildings (1,456 units) in Mandalay, respectively. — Min Htet Aung (Mandalay Sub-Printing House)/GNLM
