Ministry granted 1,605 hotel licenses in January

More than 1,600 hotels and guest houses, renting out over 64,500 rooms, were operational across the country as of the end of January 2018, according to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.
The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has approved licenses for these hotels, after carefully reviewing the hotels’ applications, to ensure tourist can travel conveniently throughout Myanmar.
There are some 390 hotels and guest houses with 20,245 rooms in Yangon, 208 hotels with 8,676 rooms in Mandalay, 141 hotels with 4,401 rooms in Taunggyi and Inle and 85 hotels with 2,919 rooms in Bagan and Nyaung U.
The number of hotels and guests houses which were granted licenses by the Ministry Hotels and Tourism has increased every month.
Also, the ministry has granted some 2,638 travel and tour agency licenses, including to 2,596 companies owned by local residents. In addition, the ministry has granted 2,548 transport licenses, 4,380 guide licenses and 3,449 regional tour guide licenses, as of January 2018.
Among the 14 states and regions, tourists primarily visited Mandalay and Yangon regions and Shan State. Some 3.44 million tourists visited Myanmar in 2017, 2.91 million in 2016 and 4.6 million in 2015.
The number of hotels and guests increased from May 2015 to January 2018 by 457 hotels with 19,247 rooms.
