Ministry of Commerce holds press conference for Challenge Grant competitions

Ministry of Commerce held a virtual press conference to inform the public about the Challenge Grant competitions under 5 goals of COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan (CERP) and the opportunity to participate yesterday morning in Nay Pyi Taw.
Deputy Minister for Commerce U Aung Htoo in his capacity as the Chairman of Digital Trade and E-Commerce Development Sub-Committee and Resident Representative for UNDP Myanmar Mr Titon Mitra delivered opening remarks.
The Deputy Minister said the Ministry of Commerce is working with government agencies, Chamber of Commerce, business associations and development partners to build an e-commerce ecosystem and to implement the digital transformation goals.
He added the current global pandemic is threatening many traditional businesses and we need to accelerate digital innovation with a view to digital transformation and to promote digital transformation through innovation.
At the virtual press conference, Director-General for the Department of Trade U Min Min and facilitation team presented the detail information related to the MoCOM E-Commerce Challenge Grant and answered the questions raised by the media.
The MoCOM E-Commerce Innovation Challenge will be held with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP Myanmar) with the aim to develop the future of Myanmar’s E-Commerce sector, to create opportunities for a business-driven and to fully adopt Industrial Revolution 4.0 by encouraging small and medium enterprises, young innovators, entrepreneurs and those who involved in the eco-system.
Challenge Grant competitions will be organized by the Ministry of Commerce in accordance with Action Plan 5.1.1 (d) under 5 goals of the COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan (CERP) and will be held in two rounds, and each round will be held with two themes. The four themes include Building Resilience against the COVID; MSMEs Formalization; Women in E-Commerce business sector; Consumer rights and online copyrights.
