Ministry plans expansion of luxury EV taxis in Yangon

Luxury electric vehicle (EV) taxis operating in downtown areas of Yangon will see an increase to 250, as announced by luxury EV taxi service providers.
Currently, there are 31 luxury EV taxis primarily serving downtown and surrounding areas within Yangon Region, with plans to increase this number by December.
The luxury EV taxi service was introduced in Yangon Region in October 2023, and efforts are underway to expand the EV charging infrastructure to include up to 7 stations in Yangon Region. Nationwide, there are a total of 19 EV charging stations.
The Ministry of Industry is leading an initiative aimed at replacing taxis and public transport buses with EV vehicles. — ASH/MKKS
