Misinformation spreads regarding alleged Tatmadaw attack on Htantawgyi Village

Reports said that malicious media circulated false claims about an alleged heavy weapon attack by Tatmadaw on Htantawgyi Village in Yinmabin Township, Sagaing Region, on 7 August. According to these reports, four civilians were purportedly killed and six others injured due to the strike.
However, a security official refuted these claims, stating that Tatmadaw engaged in routine security operations in the area and that allegations of heavy weapon fire targeting the village were entirely unfounded. The official further explained that PDF terrorists were responsible for sporadic long-range attacks on security forces, with some heavy weapon shells mistakenly landing in nearby villages.
False reports are deliberately spread on social media networks through subversive media outlets with the intent of misleading the public and instilling fear among local communities. This misinformation campaign aims to distort public perception of Tatmadaw and create a sense of insecurity among the people. — MNA/KZL
