The Writer’s Society of Myanmar Medical Association’s (MMA) annual conference honoured literary award-winning physician authors and held a literary talk at the Myanmar Medical Association (Central) meeting room at Theinbyu Street, Yangon, yesterday morning.
At the event honouring literary award-winning physician authors, MMA Writer’s Society Chairperson, physician and writer Dr. Tin Tin Win (writer Ju) said, “Our physician authors write a lot. Outstanding authors liked by readers win awards from Tun Foundation and national literary awards. The day’s event is meant to honour seven such award-winning authors. Later, there’ll be a literary talk. People can learn a lot from reading. Even if they can’t read for any reason, they can attend a literary talk and learn a lot. The literary talk will also encourage the habit of reading. To raise the value of literature, physician authors will talk about the benefits of reading, including benefits to the mind and body. This is something we are doing on a yearly basis. We gave literary talks in rural areas too. Through such talks, we share knowledge about work, difficulties faced, health and other matters that everyone needs to know.” MMA Writer’s Society Vice Chairperson Dr. Nilar Thein (writer Mya Kya Ngone) added, “MMA Writer’s Society under the MMA (Central) conducts an annual conference and holds literary talks. After the literary talks, we honour national and other award-winning physician authors. We are pleased to honour award-winning physician authors. At the annual conference, executive members are elected in a transparent manner. We also conduct health talks everywhere. I would like to encourage the youth to read.”
Next, seven award winning physician authors were presented with documents of honour and commemorative gifts. On behalf of the honoured physician authors, Dr. Hla Kyi spoke words of thanks.
Later, a literary talk was held, where author Nu Nu Yi (Innwa) and Professor Dr. Soe Lwin gave talks under the titles “Having the ability to thank and be thanked” and “Art in life.”
In the afternoon, an annual conference was held where the annual report was read, discussed and approved; a financial statement read, submitted, discussed and approved; old executive members resigned and new executive members were selected. The conference came to a close after a speech and general discussion by the new chairman and a concluding speech by the meeting chair.
