MNHRC inspects Meiktila Prison

The inspection team, led by Commissioner U Kyaw Myint from the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, inspected the Meiktila Prison in Meiktila Township, Mandalay Region, on 22 November 2023 under Section 43 and Section 44 of the MNHRC Law.
The inspection team inspected the Meiktila Prison under the MNHRC law and procedures whether the prisoners and detainees enjoy fundamental rights, including appropriate food supply, access to healthcare and provision of adequate purified water. The inspection team enquired about the prisoners to ensure that they get their personal items and items sent by families, family visits and whether there were human rights violations and torture cases in the prison.
The inspection team also inspected the dormitories, clinic, library, kitchen, food storage, water purifier, and water sanitation system of the prison.
Besides, MNHRC donated 100 books for the prisoners.
MNHRC will send recommendations to the relevant department for necessary action based on the findings during the inspection. — MNHRC
