Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo presided over a coordination meeting on the distribution of agrochemicals, fertilizers at fairer prices to the farmers together with officials of the Myanmar Rice Federation, Myanmar Fertilizer, Seed and Pesticide Entrepreneurs Association and agrochemical companies in Yangon on 21 January.
During the meeting, the Union minister underscored the need to simultaneously develop the existing agricultural industry using modern technologies through the business chain in striving towards an industrialized country.
The government and the private sector should work together to balance the price of fertilizers, which is an important input for the development of the agricultural sector, keeping in line with domestic and foreign prices.
The government also provides the needed assistance under the existing law and so the private organizations should cooperate in it.
The education programmes regarding soil quality, proper agrochemicals to conform with the crops and locations are being conducted for the farmers, retailers and wholesalers.
The farmers’ interest in compound fertilizers is now high, and if there is a need for compound plants to improve investment and local compound production, the government will provide timely assistance. Balanced cooperation between the government and private sectors is needed for the interest of the farming sector in the long run.
Then, the attendees to the meeting coordinated the discussion. —MNA
