MoALI Union Minister inspects agriculture work of Mandalay Region

The cotton plantation areas will be expanded yearly to meet the local demands, for import substitution and export, said Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo while meeting with departmental officials at the cotton research and technical development farm (Lunkyaw farm) in Kyaukse Township of Mandalay Region on 27 May.
During the meeting, the Union minister stressed the need to upgrade the canals to supply waters to seedling fields, install a solar system for water pumping machines, and new drainages to prevent crop damage in case of unexpected rainfalls and conduct field surveys.
There are more than 180,000 acres of cotton plantations in the Mandalay Region and officials cooperate with seed farmers to grow cotton on more than 3,000 acres during the pre-monsoon period and more than 3,000 acres in the late monsoon period. A total of 500,000 acres of cotton will be grown across the nation in the 2022-2023FY.
The Union minister and party arrived at the Mya Bayin condense milk factory in Kyaukse Township and inspected factory operations. During the visit, the Union minister talked about the technical assistance for dairy cow farmers, market competitiveness of milk and dairy products and market shares.
Afterwards, the Union minister and party went to the 35-acre model monsoon sunflower seed production farm in Yarbo Village of Singaing Township.
Singaing Township plants 400 acres of monsoon sunflower seed this year and the Mandalay region government estimated to plant 2,400 acres of monsoon sunflower seed in the region. — MNA
