The Ministry of Ethnic Affairs held a virtual preliminary coordination meeting on holding the 3rd Myanmar Ethnic Culture Festival 2021 online in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Union Minister Naing Thet Lwin, Deputy Minister U Hla Maw Oo, the Permanent Secretaries, Directors-General of relevant departments, Deputy Chairman of Myanmar Ethnic Entrepreneur Association U La Phine Khum Sar, General Secretary Ba Nyar San and Joint General Secretary Dr Aung Ye Zaw joined the meeting via videoconferencing.
The Union Minister firstly said the objectives of the festival are to assist the national peace process, showcase ethnic solidarity and culture, boost tourism, expand regional products and ethnic textiles to international markets, and create employment to promote the socio-economic status of ethnic people.
The 1st festival was held from 25 to 30 January in 2019 while the 2nd one was from 1 to 7 February in 2020.
The State Counsellor and Vice-President U Henry Van Thio attended the 2nd Myanmar Ethnic Culture Festival.
During COVID-19 pandemic, Myanmar Ethnic Entrepreneur Association makes efforts to broadcast the 3rd Myanmar Ethnic Culture Festival via Webinar, Facebook and MRTV.
The Union Minister recommended the need to avoid mass gatherings in holding the festival, although it is held in accordance with the health rules of the Ministry of Health and Sports.
He then said it is an excellent move to explore the culture of ethnic people and promote the tourism industry and all-round development programmes.
He stressed to consider the facts that can affect the interests of ethnic people and mainly focus on the safety of ethnic people during such virus outbreak period.
Deputy Minister U Hla Maw Oo called on the officials of relevant ministries and the ethnic entrepreneurs to present the preparations for the virtual festival which will be held from 27 February to 5 March 2021 in accordance with the COVID-19 health rules.
The officials of Myanmar Ethnic Entrepreneur Association briefed the preparations for holding online festival via platforms like Webinar, Facebook and MRTV and work plans to be conducted with regions/states ethnic entrepreneur association and department concerned.
